North Warrandyte (Osborne Peninsula) Landcare Group Inc
In July 1993, a small group of residents supported by the Eltham Shire Council – now Nillumbik Shire – formed a Landcare Group. In 1994 it became an incorporated body with the following statement of purpose:
“The group and its activities will be predominantly orientated to the care, protection, conservation and re-vegetation of private land, the adjoining State Park and roadside reserves. The group will seek to promote sound fire safety practices through education by authorities such as CFA.
The group will identify, prioritise and address local threats to native flora and fauna, especially rare or threatened species, and other land protection issues, and will work as a local community-based group to achieve stated objectives.”
The Landcare Group regularly produces a newsletter delivered to all properties in Osborne and Hamilton Rds, and Koornong Cres. and further afield by email.
Activities include seed collection, plant propagation, various methods of weed control, planting of local indigenous species on Council, Govt and private land. Over 200 different species of plants are produced in the Landcare nursery situated in Osborne Road.
The group promotes social interaction, education, skill sharing and involvement of the wider community in its activities.
