The Friends Of Warrandyte State Park
The Friends of Warrandyte State Park is a volunteer group with a mutual interest in the conservation and rehabilitation of native bushland in the Warrandyte State Park. Formed in 1982, FOWSP is now one of the largest and most active “Friends” groups in the State with a membership of about 320 households.
The aim of the group is to foster awareness of the natural values of the Park and to assist the Rangers in the care and protection of both the State Park and the Warrandyte-Kinglake Nature Conservation Reserve.
FOWSP Activities are determined jointly between Parks Victoria and FOWSP members and include the removal of environmental weeds and pest animals and indigenous planting. FOWSP helps foster an awareness of the natural values of the Park throughout the local community through education, seminars and interpretive walks.
FOWSP operates an indigenous plant nursery within the Park that produces approximately 50,000 plants annually. The plants are provided to Park staff to rehabilitate degraded areas of the Park and areas where there has been a loss of biodiversity. Plants are also sold to the community to help improve the biodiversity in our area.
